Bad Moon Risin’

Full moon, October 2026
A thick fog tried without success to blanket October’s full moon when the pups and I went out this morning before first light. The image I caught with my iPhone made it appear as if sun spots were exploding off the surface, a trick of the rolling fog, I guess.

Samhain marks the start of the dark half of the year, the Celtic New Year, though that doesn’t get much celebration here in the vapid heart of the Bible Belt.

But with the pups and me it’s a different story, none of us being much enthrall of the new gods in favor these days — stern, jealous beings who keep a tight rein on their human charges down here in the material world.

With the three-headed being who lords over the Christian world, it’s my way or the highway, or so the adherents proclaim. It’s said the dictatorial being pursues vengeance over his flock even after death, but, as I say, the pups and I put no stock in such nonsense.

Our god is the Lord of Treats, and if we are good pups, it can be a generous and loving master. We don’t preach it, though. That’s not a pup’s way.
