Our photo of a fishmonger and his customer on our current homepage was taken on Railroad Avenue in Pace, Mississippi, the main street in the town of roughly 350 people. The 2000 census counted 129 households, and 95 families living in Pace. The racial makeup of the town was 13.74 percent white and 82.69 percent black. Asians made up 1.65 percent and 0.82 percent were listed as of other races. Hispanics made up 1.37 percent of the population. The man is selling catfish he caught in the nearby Mississippi River. The woman on the right is buying.
